frequently asked questions

Do they keep the heat in?

No. Cold air is drawn in through the bottom vent and hot air comes out of the top vent. Since radiators act as convectors, covering the front of it makes no difference to the heat output as hot air rises.

Can I enclose thermostatic valves?

Yes. We recommend allowing extra clearance on the side of the TRV to allow air flow around it. Since the hot air is rising up out of the cabinet and the TRV at the bottom of the radiator where cooler air is drawn in, enclosing it should have little to no effect.
We can put a door in the side of the cabinet to allow easy access to the TRV without it being necessary to remove the cabinet.

What are the radiator cabinets constructed from?

All our cabinets are constructed from 18mm ( ¾ inch ) MDF. This is stable as it is heated up and cooled repeatedly.
Our wood finishes use a real wood veneer on an MDF core, hence getting a real wood finish with the properties of MDF i.e. will not warp or twist.

Are there standard sizes for the cabinets?

No. All our cabinets are made to measure to suit the individual requirements of each radiator and customer.
For example, two radiators may be the same size; however a plumber may hang them on a wall at different heights.

Will I see the radiator through the grill?

No. All our grills have a backing that prevents the radiator being seen.

What colours/finishes are available?

Using plain MDF, it is possible for us to spray a cabinet any colour. Wood veneers available are; oak, mahogany, pine, beech, ash, maple, wenge, pippy oak, and walnut. These finishes can then be coloured to suit.

What is the difference between a metal and MDF grill?

There is no real advantage to metal grills. The quality of the finish is, however superior to that of the MDF grill.
Often customers will choose a brass grill, for example, to match a fireplace, or a stainless steel grill in a kitchen to match appliances.

Do you offer a fitting service?

Yes. Please contact us to check if we cover your area.

I like features from two different cabinets, can I combine them in one cabinet?

Yes. We manufacture all our cabinets ourselves so can offer a complete bespoke service. Please contact us with your requirements.

Can a radiator in a bay window be covered?

Yes, but someone would need to come out to see you to take precise measurements, as this is not as straightforward as a normal radiator cabinet.
